![]() Apparently the little girl preferred her acoustic to this electric, and it was basically put in a closet and was untouched and unplayed for nearly 40 years. This one is almost too good to be true, but it is! It's a 100% original 1966 Fender Musicmaster II in Daphne Blue that was purchased new in 1967 for a 10 year old girl's Christmas gift, along with a Mel Bay Beginner's Guitar Manual. One of the neat things about these old Fenders is that every one is different, and every one has it's own musical personality. It plays amazingly well, and although it exibits similarities in feel to "smokey" above, this one has more attack and a noticibly different overall feel. After confirming it had never been modified it was put back together and received a professional set-up. In fact, the first time this one was ever opened up was just prior to my purchase of it. 100% original, including the pickup, wiring, pots, pickguard, Kluson tuners, etc. The heel date on the neck confirms this is indeed a '69 though, so its an oddball for sure. This has some interesting and somewhat unique details, as most 1969's I've seen have the later/revised block letter "MUSIC MASTER" headstock logo, whereas this one has the early style Musicmaster II logo and gold Fender script usually not seen this late into the 60's. its just a beautiful original Fender, and a joy to play. Aside from a few tiny marks on the finish this could almost pass for "new old stock". This one is as clean as a pin, and probably was never played outside of the original owner's home. 3-month warranty included. On the other end of the spectrum is this 1969 "Dakota Red" Musicmaster II. The pickup has original winds and unbroken solder. The tone pot dates to the 25th week of 58, the volume pot date is covered in solder but theres no evidence of the solder being broken so i'm confident that its original to the guitar. This guitar has been set up in our workshop with a fresh set of Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings and a medium-low action. All hardware and electronics are in good working order including the truss rod which works correctly. The frets are in good condition having been dressed in our workshop and still have plenty of life left in them. Everything remains structurally sound with no breaks or repairs. The neck and fretboard also exhibit play-wear but nothing to detract from the playability of the instrument. There is light lacquer checking throughout the finish and numerous small scuffs and dings as well as some arm wear on the edge of the upper bout and the initials of the nephew of the original owner. It's an amazing guitar to play and it sounds fantastic. The simple volume & tone controls allow for a no-frills approach to guitar playing. It has a maple neck and fingerboard with plastic button Kluson tuners. The anodized gold pickguard which nicely compliments the Desert Sand finish has the pots and pickup mounted to it. It's a short scale (22.5") guitar with a C profile neck. Released in 1956 as a student model these guitars along with the Duo Sonic became the starting point for many young guitarists. With the exception of the missing bridge cover it's all original and complete including the brown case. ![]()
